Washington Farm Internship Project

unnamed-9

We are totally delighted that the Grow Whidbey is the first non-profit farm program to participate in the Washington State Farm Internship Project. This new program of the Department of Labor and Industries legally allows farms with an income below $250,000 to offer stipends and workmen’s compensation to interns who are also receiving formal, curriculum-based instruction in growing practices.

This is a “first-in-the-nation effort to support farming’s future.” Our gratitude to the legislators, government administrators,  and sustainable farming advocates who helped craft, pass and implement this bill to make it possible for us to pay a stipend to the interns who contribute so much to our community food system.
